The Fourth of July shootings have prompted Milwaukee leaders to hold a news conference this afternoon.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
City elected officials will be meeting in the City Hall Rotunda, 200 E. Wells St., at 1:15 p.m. to discuss the July 4 quadruple homicide on Milwaukee's north side.
Milwaukee Ald. Willie C. Wade said the news conference will be a "call to action" for the community.
"We will be standing together and stating unequivocally that it's unacceptable for violence to be used to resolve problems, and it's also unacceptable not to help law enforcement solve this heinous crime if people have information they can pass along," said Wade, who is chairman of the Unity Caucus, a coalition of local and state elected officials.
...Attending the conference will be state Sen. Spencer Coggs, state Rep. Tamara Grisby, County Board Chairman Lee Holloway and Common Council President Willie L. Hines Jr., all of whom represent the neighborhood where the quadruple homicide occurred. Members of the Urban League and the NAACP have also been invited to participate in today's event.
These leaders will be appealing to the community. They'll be asking for people with information on the shootings to come forward.
That's good.
Will it convince anyone to do the right thing?
Does the Stop Snitchin' movement have greater influence than a relatively brief news conference?
Will anyone respond to this "call to action"?
I'm not optimistic. There have been so many other wake-up calls that have gone unheeded.
