On Saturday, Brett Favre was in training camp, practicing.
Of course, the #4 red jersey looked familiar. Seeing him wear the Jets helmet was somewhat disconcerting.
That's from my perspective.
The New York Post describes it from the perspective of Jets fans.
At 1:20 this afternoon, Elvis entered the playing field wearing a Jets uniform for the first time.
When Brett Favre appeared wearing his red No. 4 quarterback jersey, the fans overflowing the grandstands and swelling around the practice field cheered loudly with a standing ovation.
When Favre acknowledged the crowd with a wave, the cheers grew louder.
Never before has a Jets training camp session had this kind of buzz. Team officials estimated that there were 10,500 in attendance, an absurd number by comparison to what usually turns out for these practices, which usually attract about a quarter of that.
...As Favre began taking snap drills with the other quarterbacks, Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" blared from the sound system speakers.
The Jets hope this is the beginning of glory days for their franchise, which is coming off a 4-12 season and desperate to get back to the postseason.
Yes, they're basking in the glory that is Favre.
When he spoke to the press after the practice, Broadway Brett said something that was truly remarkable.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Is it any surprise that after Brett Favre's first practice as a New York Jet he was still wondering whether he made the right decision coming here?
You really can't blame Favre for his confusion.
In 48 hours he was whisked from Mississippi to New Jersey, where he viewed the facilities into which the Jets will move next month. Then on to Cleveland, for his introductory news conference before his new team played its first exhibition game. Next he headed to New York to meet Mayor Michael Bloomberg as part of the "Broadway Brett" hysteria that's been fanned by the New York media.
And finally, on Saturday, his first practice in a new system with new teammates, most of whose names he still doesn't know.
In fact, he didn't even know how badly his Jets played in 2007. After the obligatory tribute to his teammates ("a very talented mix of veterans and youngsters") he acknowledged: "I didn't know they were 4-12 last year."
WHAT???
Favre leaves the Green Bay Packers (13-3 in 2007) and signs on to play with the Jets.
He previously has said that he wanted to play for the Vikings or the Bears, admitting to his vindictiveness. When he learned that the Packers were NEVER going to agree to that, he joins the Jets.
Fine. But how could Favre be so clueless about the team he signed with that he didn't know they were 4-12 last year?
That's stunning to me.
I couldn't believe it when I heard him say it: "I didn't know they were 4-12 last year."
No one mentioned that to him?
Favre didn't think to ask how the Jets did last year?
Just as a matter of curiosity I would think he'd have some awareness of the Jets' record.
Not that it would have mattered to him, but I still find it amazing that he knows so little about his team.

The Jets franchise really knows how to get the hopes of their fans up. Favre will come in and will win games. he might even get so far as to get into the wildcard, but inevitably the team does not have it all together enough to go all the way,
Then, Brett will retire. The jets will go back to the mediocre play that we all have grown used to. The only difference between next year and last year is that we have to worry about Chad when we go up against the Dolphins who will excel when he gets a real opportunity to play.
Im not a pessimist, im a realist. This is nothing but a short term publicity stunt.
Given Favre's age, and given his complaints about being so burned out mentally at the end of last season, he won't be with the Jets for long.
Being realistic, time is not on his side.
Favre certainly is angry with the Packers. Maybe that anger will motivate him.
Favre always says, "It's not about me." I don't buy that anymore. Very sad.
I hope that Pennington is happy with the Dolphins and the team has a great season.
