Kelly Sweet Sentenced

UPDATE, May 5, 2009: Family Files Suit Against School District, Teacher
________________

Kelly Marie Sweet - Sex offender

Kelly Sweet learned her fate today.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Former St. Francis math teacher Kelly Marie Sweet pleaded guilty today to having sexual contact with a 14-year-old student. She was sentenced to serve 25 days in jail and placed on two years of probation.

Sweet, 27, has also permanently relinquished her Wisconsin teaching license. She was ordered to register as a sex offender for the duration of her probation.

"You were in position to protect and guide, to keep your students safe," Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Patricia McMahon told Sweet. "Not assault them."

Sweet was originally charged with second-degree sexual assault, a felony. She managed to make a plea and get off with a misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault charge.

Now that Sweet's teaching career is over, what will she do?

Don't worry about her.

...Sweet now lives in Jefferson County and works as a paralegal in her father's law firm.

How convenient for Sweet! She was able to find a new job!

Plus, in her work as a paralegal, I don't think she'll be tempted to hit on any young boys.

I wonder if her father's connections had an impact on how her case was handled.

Another thought--

Would a male teacher accused in the sexual assault of a student have been able to make a plea agreement like Sweet did?

Unlikely.

She was my teacher. I can't believe this happened. She only got 25 days? This judge is a joke
