I wonder if Brett Favre is having fun yet at training camp.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Back to the nuts and bolts of football after weeks of transitional drama, Brett Favre surely can't coast through training camp like he used to.
The new job, new city and new playbook granted with Wednesday night's trade to the New York Jets after 16 years in Green Bay, have shocked Favre's system.
It's not the same ho-hum camp routine.
"This is taxing," Favre said as he walked following his first Jets practice on Saturday. "Normally, at lunch I'd go home. But of course, I can't go home. Usually, I'd not take as many snaps; I'd go hit golf balls, whatever. Now, obviously, I can't do that."
Not with just 17 practice days to grasp the Jets' offense, before Favre lines up against the Miami Dolphins — and just-released, former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington — in the Sept. 7 regular-season opener. Favre is undergoing a crash course in an unfamiliar scheme, coordinated by Brian Schottenheimer, that is heavy on verbiage.
Favre says he can still play, but can he survive the rigors of a real training camp?
When was the last time Favre ran a penalty lap? He has NEVER run one in the NFL.
