Xbox: Murder in Kenosha

Roddee Daniel, 15, and Kawanis N. Trotter, 14, are murderous thugs (allegedly).

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A court commissioner Thursday ordered two Kenosha boys held on $1 million bails after they were accused of beating an adult neighbor to death during a burglary that targeted an Xbox game system, among other items.

Roddee Daniel, 15, and Kawanis N. Trotter, 14, were charged with being party to first-degree intentional homicide and armed burglary in the death of Capri Walker, 51, according to the criminal complaint.

She was found dead in a basement bedroom of her home with "severe head trauma" on Sunday by her live-in boyfriend, the complaint said. A .22-caliber rifle and baseball bat were used in the burglary.

The complaint said each boy, during interviews with investigators, accused the other of striking Walker in the head with a black metal baseball bat.

Kenosha County Court Commissioner Carl Greco set the teens' bails and ordered them held in Racine County Juvenile Detention Center. Their preliminary hearings were set for Sept. 22 before Circuit Judge Wilbur Warren.

In Wisconsin, anyone over age 10 accused of killing someone can be charged as an adult. If convicted as adults, the boys would face mandatory life in prison. They can also ask a judge to move the case to juvenile court, where the penalties are far less harsh.

Police say Walker interrupted a burglary that targeted the Xbox, coins, jewelry, her purse and her cell phone.

Valerie Karls, Trotter's attorney, said she will argue that her client be moved to juvenile court.

"Our child is 14. That is the main reason. Just his youth," the public defender said.

"Our child" has no respect for life. "Our child" is willing to kill a woman for an Xbox.

Juvenile court?

I don't think so.

...An autopsy determined Walker suffered at least six blows to the head, some of them fracturing her skull, the complaint says.

Six blows to the head with a metal baseball bat?

Capri Walker's murder wasn't an accident. She was beaten so ferociously.

Police arrested two teens, ages 14 and 15 who they expect will be charged with murder, and a 20 year old man who they believe helped plan the crime.

One of those teens lived next door to Walker.

...An anonymous tip caller helped police make the arrests in the case by providing names and some of the stolen property.

Police say they have recovered most of the property and the weapon used in Walker’s murder.

They also say all three suspects taken into custody are known to police. They cannot get into any background on the teens because they are juveniles.

...“It's a pathetic case from any way that you look at it, but it's even more so when you consider the relatively cheap material things that were sought after in this,” Sgt. Rafferty said.

...The Kenosha Police Department plans to ask the district attorney for first degree murder charges.

The anonymous tip caller should be commended for doing the right thing and helping police get these thugs.

When the thugs appeared in court yesterday, their appearance was somewhat startling, and their stories conflicted.

We knew the two suspects in Capri Walker's murder were young, just 14 and 15. But everyone was shocked when they saw them in court.

...Daniel, who lives next-door to Walker, told investigators that he and Trotter thought no one was in Walker's home early Sunday because the car was gone and they decided to break into it to "look for money," the complaint said.

When the boys looked in a basement window and saw the woman sleeping, they got a ladder and used it to get inside an upper-floor window, the complaint said. Daniel told investigators that Trotter crawled inside and opened a back door for Daniel.

Daniel said Trotter hit Walker with a black metal baseball bat after she surprised them, she fell on the bed and Trotter hit her again, the complaint said.

"Kawanis then moved the lady, making it look like she was lying in the bed as a normal person," Daniel told police.

The boys then ransacked the home, the complaint said, with Trotter grabbing the Xbox and Daniel stealing Walker's purse.

Trotter gave a different story. He told investigators that Daniel struck the victim in the head with the bat while she was sleeping, the complaint said.

"Trotter denied having struck Walker at any time during the incident," the complaint said.

A safe was also stolen in the burglary, which the teens opened at a friend's house, Trotter told investigators.

An autopsy determined Walker suffered at least six blows to the head, some of them fracturing her skull, the complaint said.

...Police are also investigating three other suspects who may have known about the murder and kept quiet.

This is such a horrific crime -- savagely beating a woman to death, murdering for an Xbox.

The thugs should be tried in adult court.

Such brutality and violence and heartlessness, and such a heartbreaking loss for the family and friends of Capri Walker.

It's a shame WI doesn't have the death penalty!

I hope the murderers aren't tried in the juvenile system.

If they are, you can count on seeing 'em back out on the streets in fairly short order. Hopefully, the judge will have enough sense to know these POS should never see the light of day again.

I just want to say to Aunt of Trotter that went on TV right after the candlelight vigil for Capri was held and said that it wasn't fair that they were going to try her nephew as an adult and that she wasn't going to let it happen.
I agree with her, it is not fair that he be tried as an adult. I only ask that she let me in his bedroom one night, when he is sleeping and I will beat him with a baseball bat until there is no life left in him. I would consider this fair. Would she? Would she not want to see me go to prison for the rest of my life? I am Capri's sister and I don't think it was fair that he went inside her locked house while she was sleeping and beat her to death. I too want to be fair!!

A2, I don't think any of us can ever know how you feel. All I can say is I hope someday your anger will ease with justice. My sincere prayers are with you and your family.
