14-Year-Old Girl Turns in Pot Smoking Mom

A 14-year-old Waukesha girl acted in a more mature manner than her mother.

The girl notified police that her mother was breaking the law, on an almost daily basis, and she was doing it in front of her three children.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A 14-year-old girl, tired of her mother's almost daily use of marijuana in front of her and her siblings, called police with the help of a neighbor to report the illegal activity, according to a criminal complaint filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The 30-year-old Waukesha woman was charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana, possession of an illegally obtained prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping, all misdemeanors.

The charges stem from an investigation that started with an anonymous phone call Aug. 18 that asked Waukesha police to check on the well-being of the 14-year-old girl and two other children, a 7-year-old and 5-month-old, at their home. The caller told police that a female resident at the home was "constantly doing drugs in front of her children," according to the complaint.

That night, police talked to the 14-year-old girl, who said she and a neighbor had telephoned authorities.

The girl told police that she first recognized that her mother was smoking marijuana after the girl learned about the drug in sixth grade during DARE classes, according to the complaint.

A man who was at the woman's home Aug. 18 was charged Tuesday with a felony in connection with giving an anti-anxiety drug to the woman, the complaint says.

It's a sad situation when a 14-year-old has to call the police to report that her mother is not behaving properly in front of her and her siblings.

I wonder how much responsibility the 14-year-old has had to take on because of her mother's drug use. A 7-year-old requires a lot of attention, but caring for a 5-month-old is far more demanding.

The mother is only 30 and her daughter is 14. Obviously, this was a case of a child having a child, and it did not turn out well. The mother doesn't appear to be very interested in being a mother and acting like an adult. She's certainly no role model.

It seems that the daughter, a child herself, has been forced to take on the role of an adult because her mother behaves so selfishly and irresponsibly. The mother needs to grow up. Now. She can look to her 14-year-old daughter as a role model.

There have been so many stories lately about bad parents. It's very sad.

I thought immediately about how much responsibility the child had to take on because of the age of the other two kids but if "Mom" was not doing illegal drugs but just hitting the bottle legally like some parents there would not be as big a story, or as great a headline but there would still be the same neglect of the three kids.

The neighbor is her guardian angel to get involved.

Yes, if the mother were drunk all the time, it wouldn't be a big story.

Thankfully, the girl had the neighbor to turn to for help.

I hope the mother straightens out her life and accepts responsibility for her children. They need her.
