Cops and Robbers in Greenfield

UPDATE, December 2, 2008: 3 charged in Greenfield bank robbery

Jermaine L. Goodwin, 36, and Derrell D. Cole, 34, both of Milwaukee, and Charles R. Cole, 22, of Oshkosh, are accused of robbing the TCF Bank at 4375 S. 76th St. at about 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 25.

A fourth man who was arrested in connection with the robbery was not charged, Greenfield police said.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the complaint:

Goodwin and Charles Cole both had handguns when they walked into the bank. Goodwin jumped over the counter, pointed his gun at a teller's head and took money from the teller's drawer.

The men got into a van driven by Derrell Cole but began throwing money out of the van after a dye pack exploded, the complaint says.

Derrell and Charles Cole were arrested a short time later at a CVS Pharmacy at S. 27th St. and W. Howard Ave., the complaint says.

Goodwin, who ran from the pharmacy as police arrived, was arrested Friday after authorities executed a search warrant at his home, Greenfield police said.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Three men were arrested for a Greenfield bank robbery today after an off-duty Milwaukee police officer provided a detailed description of the suspects.

Greenfield police responded to the report of the armed bank robbery about 9:45 a.m. at TCF Bank, 4375 S. 76th St., where witnesses said two men entered the bank with handguns and robbed the tellers at gunpoint, according to Greenfield Deputy Inspector Brad Wentlandt.

The suspects were said to be very violent and aggressive in robbing the bank, Wentlandt noted. No one was injured.

The men entered a getaway car that was later seen by witnesses who reported red smoke coming from the vehicle and red dye-stained money blowing around the street. A portion of S. 76th St. was closed for an hour while police collected money.

Police are still asking anyone who finds more dye-stained money to turn it over to authorities.

"It's blowing all over the neighborhoods," Wentlandt said.

Wentlandt said the off-duty Milwaukee police officer provided an "excellent description of the suspects and fleeing vehicle," which was broadcast to Greenfield officers.

...Greenfield Officer Michael Reddick, an 18-year-veteran of the department, spotted the suspect vehicle about 9:55 a.m.

The suspects pulled into the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy at S. 27th St. and W. Howard Ave. Two of the men fled into the store and officers surrounded the other in the getaway van at gunpoint, according to Wentlandt.

All three were taken into custody. Police also recovered two guns they suspect were used during the bank robbery.

Police are asking anyone who finds the dye-stained money in the area of S. 76th St. and W. Howard Ave. to turn it in at the Greenfield Police Department or to call (414) 761-5300.

Turn in that money. Do the right thing.
