Gone Shopping

I like shopping. I can shop with the most hardened of women shoppers, and can shop a few of them under the table. But . . .

A few years ago I went out on the Friday after Thanksgiving. My wife works, usually, a 12 hour day. I'm home with my girlie. Anyway, I thought it'd be fun to go to Mayfair Mall and do some looking around. Go to the food court and perhaps see a movie.

Well, it took a bit just to get in to the parking lot of the mall. And, after driving around for what seemed an eternity, I decided that this was a bad idea. I just wanted to get out.

I couldn't.

It must have taken 30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot! Add that to the 30 I'd been there already and this was an hour long excursion of futility. My girlie had long since fell asleep, which was good as the things I was spewing . . . well, there's no mpaa rating for them. People are nuts.

So, as I write this I have other windows on my computer open with Amazon, Buy, Geeks, Target, Barnes and Noble, Menards, and Best Buy. Most of the sales in the stores are available online. Some are online only.

Even though I love shopping, love spending money, and love people watching, this is the one day I won't do it. And, in spite of all the issues you've covered on this blog of which most I agree with, I've come to the conclusion that if you're out shopping today . . . you must be nuts.

You're brave.

Our economy thanks you.

I don't think I'm nuts. I prefer "patriotic." :)

Just doing my part to help the economy.

Of course, you can show your patriotism online as well.

Anyway, I shopped until I almost dropped. Really. At one point, I thought I was going to pass out.

I didn't get enough sleep. I was tired from all the work I did yesterday. (Thanksgiving dinner doesn't appear on the table by magic.) It was so crowded and warm in the stores. It was a nightmare.

BUT--

I love a bargain, the thrill of the hunt. I got some great deals. If I didn't have a specific purpose to go shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I wouldn't.

The payoff has to be worthwhile. All in all, it was.

Oops. Was logged in under my daughter's account. Anyway, glad to hear it was worth it. I thought about it for a while. The one thing about shopping online is not being able to touch the merchandise. There were some things at Menards I wanted to look at, and it's always fun to go to Barnes and Noble. I cleaned, instead.

Maybe tomorrow.
