Obama and the Freedom of Choice Act

BARACK OBAMA: The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.

That's scary. It's so extreme and so anti-life.

From Wisconsin Right to Life:

The right-to-life movement has formidable challenges ahead. The immediate and critical goal of the right-to-life movement is stopping the so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). The passage of this devastating piece of legislation is a priority of Obama, the Democratic leadership and their pro-abortion allies.

Here is what FOCA would do...
---You, as a taxpayer, forced to pay for abortions

---Partial-birth abortion legal again

---Secret abortions for our minor daughters with no parental involvement

---No required information or waiting periods for women seeking abortions

---Medical professionals and facilities forced to perform abortions

That’s right … all of the laws that have been saving lives and protecting women since 1973 would be wiped out by FOCA with no hope of passing future protective laws. And the number of abortions will skyrocket!

Go to the Stop FOCA! page.
At this webpage you will find a Stop FOCA petition, our video on Stop FOCA, complete information on FOCA, a means of contacting your Congressman by e-mail and specific things you can do to help stop FOCA.

Where are getting that quote at the beginning of this post?

Cite your sources -- Obama's said no such thing.

I have to admit, I wish abortion wasn't a political issue. I'm against abortion. But, I'm also against government intervention in such matters. To me, this is an issue a woman, must discuss with her husband (if applicable), or her parents (if applicable), her doctor, and her pastor (if applicable) to determine the right choice. In that regard, I am a choice person. But, I'm against abortion used as birth control. To think we have to kill the potential of life simply because we were too stupid to realize that, hey, sex can lead to pregnancy? What? There are things we can do to prevent that?

Who knew?

In spite of that, there are several things I find objectionable. First, partial birth abortions. How many stories about a woman dying as a result of her pregnancy who could have been saved by a partial birth abortion procedure have we read about since the ban went in to effect? None?

To allow under age girls access to an abortion without parental consent is retarded. In a time when we need MORE family involvement, allowing secret abortions is amoral.

We encourage second opinions on all major surgical procedures. Fact is, there's risk. Add to that the psychological affects that go along with abortion and it only makes sense to allow a waiting period. If for no other reason that to obtain a clear medical history so as to be more comfortable with performing the procedure. Again, to allow immediate access is amoral, unethical, and dangerous.

Lastly, I absolutely do not want my tax money going to abortions. You want to take the politics out of a social issue? Fine. Then it goes where it belongs, in the medical field where it's treated like any other medical procedure . . . as it is. Let the insurance companies deal with it. Let's see how far that goes.

Obama isn't even in office yet and has already said he's considering not repealing the Bush tax-cuts, forgetting the windfall profits tax on big oil, and keeping Gates in his cabinet.

I was confused by his policies during the campaign, but now I'm not sure what to think.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...who the hell knows what he's going to do? I don't think even he knows at this point.

Jb,

Did you watch the YouTube clip on my post?

Since I posted the clip, I thought the words coming out of Obama's mouth would have been enough in terms of citation.

Obama says, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

He's addressing a group of Planned Parenthood benefactors, July 2007.

It's possible that Obama was saying the first thing he'd do as president in regard to abortion would be to sign FOCA, but there is absolutely no question that the quote is his.
