Coburn and Nelson Sing 'Rocket Man'

I give Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma credit for making good on his bet with Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida.

He's shown himself to be a man of his word, but he can't sing.

Nelson was a good sport to join in with Coburn. Although Nelson won the bet and won the right to be spared the humiliation, he sang along with Coburn anyway.

WASHINGTON -- From the sound of things, U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn cannot sing, or at least he cannot sing Elton John’s “Rocket Man.’’

But that didn’t stop the Oklahoma Republican on Wednesday from making good on his bet to sing the decades-old classic to Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla, at one of Nelson's constituent coffees.

The two senators placed a friendly wager on last week’s BCS championship football game between the universities of Florida and Oklahoma, and Nelson’s team came out on top.

Nelson’s status as a former astronaut dictated the choice of song.

Listen.

Warning: It's painful. The high notes are American Idol William Hung painful.

I really like that Coburn and Nelson can laugh at themselves.
