Binyam Mohamed Released

Barack Obama promised change.

Here's some change.

An executive order from Obama allowed for the release of Binyam Mohamed -- a terrorist, an enemy of the United States, a threat to the American people.

Statement Concerning Unprecedented Release Of GITMO Terrorist

Washington, DC – February 23, 2008 – This morning, Military Families United learned that Guantanamo Bay detainee Binyam Mohamed landed in England at 8:30 EST as a free man. This marks the first time an ‘unlawful enemy combatant’ has been released from Gitmo back into society. Mohamed was captured in Pakistan in April, 2002, and has admitted to training at various Al-Qaeda training camps, where he specialized in firearms and explosives. He is accused of plotting a series of attacks on the United States with Jose Padilla and Khalid Sheik Mohammed. According to a British police upon Mohamed’s arrival it is “unlikely Mr. Mohamed would be arrested.”

Former USS Commander Cole Commander Kirk S. Lippold and Senior Military Fellow for Military Families United released the following statement:

“Actions speak stronger than words in the war on terror. In the Executive Order, signed by the President on January 22, the Attorney General was directed to conduct a 180 day review of Guantanamo Detentions. The Attorney General had not even arrived in Guantanamo Bay to start the review before the Administration released a terrorist designated an unlawful enemy combatant.

Despite direct assurances to the families of USS Cole and 9/11 victims that his first priority is the protection of the United States and its citizens, the President is clearly taking actions that may endanger the United States and our national interests. Americans must now be very watchful of every action the Obama Administration takes in war on terror. Vigilance is the eternal price of freedom and it is does not bode well that Americans must now exercise such watchful oversight of our own government to ensure our safety.”

*Note – This is an unprecedented release because it is the first time that a GITMO detainee, who is classified as an “Unlawful Enemy Combatant” has been released - meaning that he still poses a threat to our national security and the security of our allies. All of the previous released GITMO detainees were declassified and determined to no longer be of intelligence value or pose a threat to our country.

Military Families United launched this ad:
The ad features no spoken words, but rather very spooky music and images of court documents as these words are typed on the screen: "Binyam Mohamed. Enemy Combatant #1458. Alias: Talba al Kini, Fouad Zouaoui, Binyam Ahmed Mohammad, John Samuels.

"Trained in Al-Qaeda camps to use weapons and create explosives. Given money by Al-Qaeda leaders to fly to the United States. Arrested trying to leave Pakistan.

"In February 2009: Enemy Combatant #1458, RELEASED."

The screen goes black.

Then: "Tell the White House: Don't release terrorists. Sign the petition today. www.DontFreeTerrorists.com. Paid for by Military Families United. "

What with the economic disaster that Obama and his administration are inciting, the War on Terror is pretty much off the radar screen.

It shouldn't be.

Americans should be aware of what Obama is doing in terms of protecting and defending the United States.

One of the easiest things for Obama to do would be NOT TO RELEASE TERRORISTS back into society.
