Fat Tuesday

Happy Mardi Gras! Happy Pączki Day! Happy Pancake Day!

The Polish Center of Wisconsin will be offering pączki today.

Mmm...pączki.

On Tuesday, February 24 we'll be holding our annual Pączki Day. Pączki are traditional Polish treats eaten before Lent starts which are similar to jelly doughnuts only richer and more delicious. Place your order now and treat your family, friends or co-workers! Order by the dozen - prune or raspberry - or a mixed box of 6 each for $10 a dozen. Pick up at the Polish Center is from 7:00-11:30 a.m. Visa and MasterCard accepted. You can also stop in at the Polish Center between 7:00 and 11:30 a.m. for a cup of coffee and a pączek for $3.00.

Not interested in pączki? How about pancakes?

From the
Baltimore Sun:
Pancakes are the traditional food for the last meal before the start of Lent, the Christian season of fasting that starts next week. Whether it is known as Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day, this day was used by our penitent ancestors to consume the last of the sugar, butter and eggs before the traditional 40 days of denial began.

If you want to celebrate with some pancakes, IHOP might be the place to go.

From the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
IHOP restaurants will celebrate the day by offering guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes, while asking for donations to the Children's Miracle Network program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. IHOP nationwide hopes to raise $1 million to benefit children's hospitals and other charities.

Free pancakes will be served at area IHOP restaurants from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

...Last year, IHOP served 1.5 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day. That's enough pancakes to create a 12-mile-high stack. Pancake lovers donated more than $875,000 to children's charities that day.

This is nice. Indulge and help to raise money for a good cause.

Why choose between pączki and pancakes? Do both. It's Fat Tuesday!

Eat, drink, and be merry!
