Obama Disses Biden

If there's one thing Barack Obama does with ease, it's throw people under the bus. Jeremiah Wright was one of Obama's earlier victims. Obama's own grandmother, a "typical white person," was another.

Even with this well known pattern of behavior, we still were taken aback as we watched Obama slam Joe Biden. Sure, we laughed. We laughed along with Obama and the members of the press.

But we weren't laughing at Biden as much as we were laughing at Obama's foot-in-mouth disease.

When confronted with a tough, direct question from Major Garrett that Obama didn't want to answer, he didn't hesitate to throw his vice president under the bus.

Toby Harnden of the Telegraph writes:

Pity poor Joe Biden. His "there's still a 30 percent chance we're going to get it wrong" quote is put straight to President Barack Obama during the White House press conference just now and his boss seemed to want to say: "Vice-President Who?"

As reporters started giggling, Obama came close to conceding that Biden was indeed a joke. "You know, I don't remember exactly what Joe was referring to, not surprisingly."

The President went on to say that "I think what Joe may have been suggesting, although I wouldn't ascribe any numerical percentage to any of this, is that given the magnitude of the challenges that we have, any single thing that we do is going to be part of the solution, not all of the solution."

Of course, Biden wasn't saying anything of the sort - Obama knew that and all the rest of us did too.

Biden's exact quote, read out by Fox's Major Garrett at the presser was: "If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, if we stand up there and we really make the tough decisions, there's still a 30 percent chance we're going to get it wrong."

Harnden is calling Obama a liar, probably because in all likelihood Obama was lying.

Here's video of Biden's comments. Obama should take a look to refresh his very foggy memory.

Here's the original story on Biden's remarks, from the Wall Street Journal.

Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged today that Democrats could face political repercussions in 2010 for their support of the $900 billion economic stimulus package.

...The vice president also offered some trademark candor about the prospects of success.

He recalled a recent White House meeting with the president and senior aides in which they were discussing the many challenges the country faces. "If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, there's still a 30 percent chance we're going to get it wrong," was his message at the meeting.

Doesn't Obama read the Wall Street Journal?

Katie Couric should ask Obama what he reads and quiz him next time she interviews him.

Bottom line: Obama tried to joke and charm his way out of addressing the question. He just didn't want to answer Major Garrett.

Obama had the opportunity to do the right thing but he refused to be honest with the American people.

So he lied. If he didn't lie, he has a very poor memory. Either way, it's bad.

That's pretty slimy.
