Steve Crowder, Muzzammil Hassan, and "The Qur’an Challenge!"

Steve Crowder writes that the recent honor killing and the woeful lack of media attention it received prompted him to examine Islam and give it a "healthy dose of criticism."

Here's the case that has Crowder asking questions:

Islamic TV founder charged with beheading wife: reports

The founder of a US television station aimed at countering stereotypes of Muslims has been arrested and charged with beheading his wife, local media reported.

Here's more on the beheading, from the Buffalo News:

Orchard Park police are investigating a particularly gruesome killing, the beheading of a woman, after her husband — an influential member of the local Muslim community — reported her death to police Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Detectives have charged her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder.

"He came to the police station at 6:20 p.m. [Thursday] and told us that she was dead," Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said late this morning.

Muzzammil Hassan told police that his wife was at his business, Bridges TV, on Thorn Avenue in the village. Officers went to that location and discovered her body.

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

The killing apparently occurred some time late Thursday afternoon. Detectives still are looking for the murder weapon.

"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said today.

Yes, I would agree with the Erie County D.A. that beheading is the worst form of domestic violence possible.

There has been a striking lack of media interest in the case.

The violence perpetrated by Travis the Chimp has become an obsession, yet a man beheading his wife here in America, in Orchard Park, NY, gets little notice.

I can understand why Crowder wanted to comment, but I'm genuinely concerned for his safety.

If Crowder were bashing the Bible, he would be hailed as a hero. Woo hoo! Free speech rules!

Taking on Islam, however, is taboo.

His video might make you squirm a bit, but take another look at the photo of Muzzammil and Aasiya Hassan. Think of what he did to her.

It's impossible to view Crowder's criticism as offensive and disrespectful when compared with Hassan's beheading of his wife.
