Elderly Milwaukee Woman Scammed

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Milwaukee police are warning residents about a scam that robbed an elderly woman of thousands of dollars Friday.

In the incident, four males were able to enter an 80-year-old woman's home in the 3300 block of South 25th Street about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Milwaukee Police Lt. Raynard Richards said. The men claimed they were new neighbors and needed to load up buckets with water so they could mix cement.

While at least two of the men were in the basement with the woman filling the buckets, the other men ransacked the woman's home and took a substantial amount of money. Richards said he did not know how long the men were in the home, but that they were able to keep the woman in the basement while taking large amounts of water.

Police did not have a detailed description of the suspects, but said they were Hispanic and drove a black sport utility vehicle with Illinois license plates.

It's so sad when thugs prey on the elderly.

They exploited the goodness of this woman. She offered to help them but they were actually robbing her.

Don't these thugs have grandparents? Would they like their grandparents or elderly relatives to be victimized this way?

Sick.

At least the Journal Sentinel offers a vague description of the four thugs, stating that they're Hispanic and male.

TMJ4's report didn't even say that much.

"And we don't have a detailed description of the men, but the four men may be driving a black SUV with an Illinois license plate."

It's so important for the media to give the public whatever information they have in terms of descriptions of criminals.

So often they fail to tell all. It's a disservice to the public.

Media should share all the information they have so people can protect themselves more effectively.
