Gibbs, Cheney, and Limbaugh

I'm sure Barack Obama's press secretary Robert Gibbs was thrilled to be able to bring Dick Cheney back into the limelight.

What could be more satisfying than taking a swipe at two figures demonized by the Dems and their media hacks in one blow?

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs blasted former Vice President Dick Cheney in his briefing Monday, calling him part of a “Republican cabal” and saying the country is better off ignoring his economic advice.

Quizzed about Cheney’s criticism of the Obama administration on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Gibbs shot back: "I guess Rush Limbaugh was busy, so they trotted out the next-most-popular member of the Republican cabal."

When CNN’s Ed Henry cited Cheney’s suggestion that the White House was trying to “take advantage” of the economic crisis, Gibbs dismissed the suggestion.

“I think not taking economic advice from Dick Cheney would be maybe the best possible outcome of yesterday’s interview,” he said.

Asked moments later whether his tone in responding to Cheney might have been excessive, Gibbs scarcely walked back his remarks.

“Sometimes I ask forgiveness rather than for permission,” Gibbs said. “I hope my sarcasm didn’t mask the seriousness of the answer.”

Of course, Gibbs would rather talk about Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh and the Bush administration than Promise Breaker in Chief Obama's flip-flopping and floundering and lying.

No doubt, Gibbs had a thrill going up his leg during the press briefing. I'm sure Chris Matthews will have that reaction to what Gibbs had to say today.
