Johnson Controls Exec Arrested in Internet Sting

UPDATE, March 25, 2009: Alok Kumar charged.
______________

Former mayor of Racine, Gary Becker, has company.

Here's another case of an older adult male chatting on the Internet and arranging to meet a child for sex. As with Becker, the "child" was actually a cop.

From MSNBC:

A 57 year old Johnson Controls executive was arrested for using the internet to try have have sexual contact with a minor. We're not naming him because he has not been formally charged.

Police tell Today's TMJ4 that the suspect would use the internet to communicate with what he thought was a 14 year old boy. He used a computer at his east side apartment.

On the other end of the conversation were undercover Milwaukee Police. On Saturday we're told he went to an east side pharmacy to meet who he thought was a 14 year old boy instead he found police waiting for him and arrested him.

It's mind-boggling that this executive would engage in such perverted and risky behavior. He willingly put his career, his reputation, and his entire future in jeopardy.

He made incredibly bad choices.

Did he hear about what happened to Becker?

I don't know how he could have missed it. That should have been warning enough for him to straighten up.

Using the Internet to arrange a sexual encounter with a child is likely not to end well.

And the company execs had scheduled meeting on 'Integrity'. Apparently this jerk was too busy on the internet and missed the meeting.

How strange is it that "Badgerfan" Scott Javoroski, the Perverted Justice contributor, also works for Johnson Controls? And is a subordinate to the accused executive!

Very strange.

It doesn't suprise me. Johnson Controls executives have no morals and to think they made such a big thing of Integrity Rallies across the country spending tons of money while laying off workers. I hope this jerk put behind bars for a long time.

Johnson Controls executives have no morals

That's an absolutely ridiculous accusation.

What Alok Kumar did has nothing at all to do with Johnson Controls.

I do agree what Alok Kumar did was done as an individual, and it has nothing at all to do with Johnson Controls.

That being said, and as a former employee of JCI, I will tell you that the more they have pushed an annual "core ethics" training module, the more they seem to separate themselves from the employment of sound morals in their decision-making.

Sorry....that is just calling a spade what it is. And if you are one buying into this "Global Village" concept, just forget it. You simply wouldn't understand.

What does "global village" have to do with Kumar's behavior and arrest?

I don't see this as about Johnson Controls.

You honestly believe that some "annual 'core ethics' training module" has something to do with a 57-year-old man trying to hook up with a 14-year-old boy?

Good grief. That doesn't make sense. It's not related in any way.

Frankly, it's quite clear that you have an ax to grind with JCI.

And it seems to me you must be working in a secure corporate position with this company to stick up for them. The way they treat their employees is horrible.

I have to agree with Mary here.. The actions of Kumar has nothing to do with Johnson Controls -- as a former employee, I've been through the modules, and they made a solid effort to discourage any lewd, inappropriate behavior - not that you're place of work should be responsible for teaching you basic morals. I can also very confidently say that their treatment of employees far exceeds many other companies out there.
Focus on the issue... this guy had some major problems. You have to be out of your mind to be a pedophile in the first place, but then to risk everything to act on it shows how far beyond reason he was. This whole situation comes as a huge shock to anyone that knew him.

Not in connection with Kumar, but I've experienced similar shock as far as being stunned by someone's illicit behavior. I know what it's like to be shaken that way.

Shocked states it well--

It's not the responsiblity of the employer to teach one basic morals.

Setting guidelines for behavior at the workplace is one thing, but placing responsibility on Johnson Controls for Kumar's predatory behavior online and beyond is nuts. It's not work-related.

Except, I'm not nor have I ever been a contributor at Perverted Justice, nor did I ever work for Alok Kumar. You can easily find the names of all contributors at Perverted Justice very easily by looking at their website.. neither Badgerfan nor Scott Javoroski show up there in any way.
