Obama: America as Arrogant, Dismissive, Derisive

Barack Obama continues on his European tour.

He's repeating some of the things he said yesterday at his press conference. Acting more like a "global citizen" than a proud American, Obama slammed President Bush and trashed America.

He's staying on that ugly path and skipping merrily down it.

It sickens me to hear Obama talk that way, but I find it to be particularly troubling to hear a U.S. president saying such crap about my country when he's on foreign soil.

From the Telegraph:

President Obama said the US had “failed to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world”.

His speech in Strasbourg went further than any United States president in history in criticising his own country’s action while standing on foreign soil.

But he sought to use the mea culpa as leverage to alter European views of America and secure more troops for the war in Afghanistan.

He declared that there had to be a fundamental shift on both sides of the Atlantic. “America is changing but it cannot be America alone that changes,” he said.

Addressing a crowd of some 2,000 mainly students from France and Germany, Mr Obama said: “In America, there is a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world.

“Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”

He then balanced this striking admission with a tough message to Europeans that blaming America was foolish.

“But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual, but can also be insidious. Instead of recognising the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what is bad.

“On both sides of the Atlantic, these attitudes have become all too common. They are not wise. They do not represent the truth. They threaten to widen the divide across the Atlantic and leave us both more isolated. They fail to acknowledge the fundamental truth that America cannot confront the challenges of this century alone, but that Europe cannot confront them without America."

Anti-Americanism "on both sides of the Atlantic...."

When Obama speaks of insidious anti-Americanism he should reflect on what he just said as the sitting president, and what he's been saying since he's been a public official.

Obama seems to be channeling his dear Rev. Jeremiah Wright when he disses America. At least Obama controlled himself and didn't start screaming, "God damn American!"

Obama himself has stoked the view of America as "arrogant, dismissive, derisive." HE appealed to the American Left by saying that stuff. HE perpetuated that myth. HE expanded on it.

I don't have a problem with Obama going to Europe and laying out what he wants to do, explaining the approach he wants to take.

I do have a problem with him trashing President Bush and my country in the process. He talks as if we had no allies during the Bush administration. That's disgraceful. It's not true.

Arrogant. Dismissive. Derisive.

That's not America. That's Obama's campaign rhetoric. That's the American Left's ugliness. Obviously, his campaign isn't over. I won't embrace that garbage.

There is no way, NO WAY, President Reagan would have ever said such things about this great country. He wouldn't have said those things at home or abroad, because he didn't see America as arrogant, dismissive, derisive.

Neither do I.

I think Obama should be made an honorary Dixie Chick.

"Honorary Dixie Chick" - that made me giggle. Seriously, though, this man is making a mockery of both his office and our great country. How sad it is that him and his ilk do not recognize the great privilege it is to be a citizen of our blessed nation. Keep up the good work of "calling them as you see them"!

Obama is conducting himself like the radical, "blame America first," Leftist that he is.

I think Obama's bow was weird. The guy doesn't know what he's doing.

...and after saying things like this all the time...liberals then get indignant when we "question" their patriotism. Obama is just another gutless, liberal statist hack who can't even see fit to speak of *A*M*E*R*I*C*A*N* leadership without kissing European socialist ass in the process. What an absolute embarrassment to the office this turd is.

oBAMA has turned out to be exactly the socialist/anti-American/ass-kissing/Communist that we suspected. I hope America can come thru this presidency without cow-towing to European and Middle Eastern preferences. Obama is NOT an AMERICAN - otherwise, he would know how BLESSED he is to be living in the greatest country God has blessed!
GOD HELP US!!
Only hope for America is to WIPE THE SLATE CLEAN in Washington in 2010 - START NOW, by writing your congressmen and threatening to get them removed from office if they follow "O"'s socialistic agenda.

It is not anti-patriotic to acknowledge one's weakness or fault. It's actually a quality but you all got brainwash to think it's bad to do. This country has been arrogant toward the world, this country thinks it can do anything because it's an empire. This does not mean it's not a great country nor someone is not patriotic. But right wing people think to be an American, it's to be arrogant and you all got fed propaganda and now you can't see humbleness.
