Will Law Enforcement Videotape Tea Party Attendees?

On Tuesday, Roger Hedgecock interviewed Sean Smith, Assistant Secretary of DHS for Public Affairs.

They talked about the report from the Department of Homeland Security, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

What Smith refused to say was as enlightening as what he did say.

Transcript

ROGER HEDGECOCK: Is the department sending people to video or record in any way the Tea Parties?

SEAN SMITH: Um, I can't speak to sort of things that are law enforcement sensitive. Um, so I can't speak to any current law enforcement operations.

HEDGECOCK: Does the department consider the organizers of Tea Parties Right-wing extremists?

SMITH: Um, I, I couldn't answer that.

HEDGECOCK: Does the department consider people who are opposed to illegal immigration, as this footnote seems to say, uh... Right-wing extremists?

SMITH: No.

HEDGECOCK: All right. Well, I, I've... Is this report gonna be withdrawn and redone?

SMITH: Um, I think that this report, um, you know, uh, we may not have seen the last of it. I'll say that.

HEDGECOCK: Because, in other words, when I said Unabomber and all, other than Tim McVeigh, you know, in this report, there are no names. There are no names of groups. I don't really know who you're talking about. I mean, are you talking about the VFW or are you talking about the Ku Klux Klan? It's not really clear.

SMITH: Right.

HEDGECOCK: This is really an unclear and very poorly written report to start with. I mean, if I was a grammar teacher I'd be very unhappy. You know what I'm saying?

SMITH: Yeah, and, and I share, I share some of your, uh, you know, frustration with the, with this document.

HEDGECOCK: So is it gonna be withdrawn or not, or do you know?

SMITH: Uh, I don't think that we're saying that at this point.

HEDGECOCK: OK. So, in other words, it stands; and it has been sent to all law enforcement agencies in this country -- state, federal, local, and tribal.

SMITH: Yes.

HEDGECOCK: Sean Smith, I appreciate your being with us.

SMITH: You bet, Roger. Thanks for having me.

HEDGECOCK: Thanks for your time. I appreciate it. Sean Smith, Assistant Secretary of DHS for Public Affairs.

This is really creepy.

What's happening to our country?

By the Obama administration DHS definitions Freedom Eden is a right-wing extremist blog. You might want to watch yourself.

Well I disagree with 99% of what you write, but agree with having a first amendment right to write it and if they tried to shut you down, might even defend you.
