_______________
In the event that all goes well for Danny Gokey this week on American Idol and he makes it into the final three, Milwaukee has been making plans for Danny Gokey Day.
Details, from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Milwaukee's "Danny Gokey Day" probably would be Friday, with plenty of local face time on Channel 6, the Fox affiliate. But it also would be a public event, with "Idol" cameras recording the hoopla for inclusion in the following week's shows.
Likely components:
• A mini-concert at a public venue, probably somewhere near downtown.
• A parade.
• Gokey singing the national anthem at that night's Brewers-Cubs game.
Nothing has been set in stone just yet. But Channel 6 and Visit Milwaukee, a nonprofit group that promotes the city, are working with "Idol" producers on the arrangements.
Channel 6 general manager Chuck Steinmetz says Gokey would appear on the station's morning show on Friday, giving hometown viewers a better chance to get to know him.
That visit to the station also would be something of a family event for Danny, since his brother, Charles Gokey, is an engineer at the station.
"It means a lot for the station, but I think it means a lot for the city, to tell you the truth," Steinmetz says of Gokey's likely Milwaukee visit.
Dave Fantle of Visit Milwaukee is estimating that the face time on "Idol," TV's biggest show, could be worth $10 million in TV advertising to promote the city.
