"Nuns" Charity Run

I don't get this.

From the BBC:

Hundreds of people dressed in nun's habits have been running along the banks of the Thames in London to raise money for children's charity Barnado's.

Spokesman Tim Leist said: "The public have been fantastic, with lots of whooping and shouting: 'Go on sisters!"

He added that the spectacle of a thousand running nuns was not something seen every day.

Barnado's seems like a nice charity.

Learn more about Barnado's.
I don't understand why such a reputable group would hold an event that mocks nuns.

Why have women and men running through the streets of London dressed in religious habits worn by nuns?

Is it supposed to be funny?

I don't get it.

I can't imagine it going over too well if runners dressed as Islamic women, wearing head scarves.

Would it be funny to have men and women runners dressed as rabbis?

I bet people would freak out if runners wore fur. That would have caused an uproar.

I object to the religious nature of the runners' garb. It's offensive.

Explain this to me. What's the point?

I bet people would freak out if runners wore fur. That would have caused an uproar.

If the charity was looking for a theme, I don't understand why it chose nuns.

Nuns running. HAHAHA.

I don't get it.

It's weird and reflects poorly on the charity.

That's unfortunate.
