Obama and Health Care: "The Stars are Aligned"

Jeff "Enchanting" Zeleny, New York Times, writes:

President Obama on Wednesday declared that “the stars are aligned” to pass his health care agenda this year, with the legislation set to begin in the House of Representatives in July.

“We’ve got to get it done this year,” Mr. Obama said, standing on the South Lawn of the White House, surrounded by House Democratic leaders. “We’ve got to get it done this year, both in the House and Senate. We don’t have any excuses.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi pledged to bring the legislation to the House floor by July, an ambitious goal considering the vastness and complexity of the nation’s health care system and the wide array of views on how the overhaul should work. She said the debate would begin before the Congressional recess in August.

...Mr. Obama said bringing down the cost of health care was critical to controlling the country’s debt. He sought to preempt Republican criticism of the cost of his health care plan — and how he would pay for it — by calling it an essential step in reducing lowering the deficit.

“We’ve had a lot of discussions in this town about deficits and people across the political spectrum like to throw barbs back and forth about debt and deficits,” Mr. Obama said. “The fact of the matter is, the most significant driver — by far — of our long-term debt and our long-term deficits is ever-escalating health care costs. If we don’t reform how health care is delivered in this country, then we are not going to be able to get a handle on that.”

The president said this week marked a shift in the decades-old health care debate.

“The problems in our health care system didn’t emerge over night, we’ve debated what to do about them for decades, but too often efforts at comprehensive reform have fallen apart due to special-interest lobbying and petty politics and the failure of all sides to come together,” Mr. Obama said. “What’s been so encouraging this week is that you’ve started to see a shift in these patterns.”

I am not willing to put the lives of my family at risk to satisfy a socialist's dream of utopia.

The sort of socialized system the Democrats are forcing on the country will endanger the health and well-being of my family.

I will not accept this.

If you believe that what Obama and the Dems are offering is health care nirvana, think again.

Read about Obama's plan and what the consequences will be for you and your family.

The enchanting Zeleny continues:

It was a picturesque moment on a sun-splashed day: Mr. Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., Ms. Pelosi and five other leaders of the House leaving the Oval Office as they made their way to the cameras on the White House South Lawn.

This guy is so in the tank for Obama.

"Picturesque"?

"Sun-splashed"?

Good grief.
