Tim Cuprisin: Danny Gokey "Scare"

When I saw the headline of Tim Cuprisin's column about Wednesday's American Idol results show, I thought I had missed something.

"After scare, Gokey's in final three"

What "scare"?

There was no "scare."

The Idol producers thought they could add suspense by making Danny, and his fans, wait until the very end of the show to learn his fate.

Danny has been the only contestant to NEVER be in the bottom two or three. And as far as we know, he didn't place there this week.

Ryan Seacrest kept reminding the audience that results were being announced randomly on Wednesday, unlike on the previous shows when the lowest vote getters were the ones left hanging.

Yes, it was different having to wait to be certain that Danny was safe. Scary? No.

Cuprisin writes:

There was some doubt about Gokey's fate after his Tuesday night performance of Aerosmith's "Dream On." His final note had drawn criticism from the judges, something he had eluded at first.

Who doubted?

I don't know what Cuprisin is talking about.

At this stage, one note doesn't send a contestant home.

Anything can happen. There have been upsets before, but I never really doubted that Danny would make it into the final three.

Again, he's the only one to have NEVER been in the bottom three.

One note was not going to place Danny at the bottom.

In short, there was no "scare."
