5 More Myths the Left Has Created About Itself

A week ago, John Hawkins cited 5 positive myths that Leftists have created about themselves and their ideology.

Today, Hawkins offers "Five More Myths the Left Has Created About Itself."

Again, Hawkins presents convincing reasons to back up his assertions.

5 More MYTHS:

---Liberals care about the poor

---Liberals care about education

---Liberals care about Hispanic Americans

---Liberalism is the ideology of science

---Liberalism is non-violent

One of those "poors" should be a "non-violence."

And as for the "science" issue? Why is the right always complaining about the halls academia if they are packed with conservative scientists? You'll never convince me -- not in 14 billion (or 5,800) years.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

I've made the correction.

Regarding the "Liberalism is the ideology of science" myth, Hawkins speaks about scientific issues. You're looking at it way too narrowly.

I'm wondering why you tossed in that 5,800 years comment.

Are you trying to provide evidence to prove one of Hawkins' previous Leftist myths, "Liberals are tolerant"?

Science is, in one respect, a liberal endeavor by its very nature. You state a hypothesis, state the conditions that would nullify it, and then seek to disprove it. You are inviting challenge, and welcome the opportunity to adjust you position, as it is a step closer to the truth. Thus the shift from cooling to warming is not failing, but a temporary bump in the road and an ultimate success in the scientific approach.

It is the stubborn hanging onto discounted ideas that I would associate more closely with the conservative mindset.

As for Hawkin's contention that liberals use science to push their agenda? I'd suggest this is a chicken and egg situation. He might suggest that global warming is just a device to push environmentalism (i.e. restrictions on industry CO2 emmissions), but remember, it was the observation (the most basic level of science) the Cayahoga River burning 40 years ago yesterday that is largely seen as the birth of the modern environmental movement.

And my young earth reference? Guilty, and snide, as charged.
