Aldrin: Mars Mission

The Apollo 11 astronauts are issuing a challenge to Obama -- Go to Mars.

From the Washington Times:

When Neil Armstrong's foot sank into the lunar sand, his "giant step for mankind" 40 years ago on the moon was not just a scientific or Cold War-era victory - it was a revolution that united the world.

But Apollo 11 lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin said Sunday night that we can do more, such as putting men on Mars.

"I believe we deserve a little more than footprints on the moon," Mr. Aldrin said. "Apollo 11 is a symbol of what a great people and a great nation can do if we work together. We need to realize the dream of exploration and determination."

Speaking at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, Mr. Aldrin said it's time to inhabit Mars.

I can't see Obama being receptive to this.

He's not a forward-looking man.

His idea of change is by stepping back and adopting the failed policies of socialism.

The Apollo program came on the heels of economic hopefulness, not doubt and unease.

Exploration, whether it was the Louisiana Purchase or space, is really about hope and looking for potential.

That's not what Obama is about. He's bent on crushing the spirit that fuels exploration and investment in limitless possibilities.

So far in his presidency, Obama has been all about imposing limits, enacting stifling regulations, and dousing imagination and innovation, tearing down incentives to explore new frontiers.

Obama is no JFK, though he likes to play him on TV.

Failed policies of socialism? Because Canada's economy is on it's knees?

I'm talking about his government-run health care system that will include rationing and medical care decisions being determined by bureaucrats, ala Zeke Emanuel.

I'm talking about Obama taking over private companies and chipping away at the private sector.

I'm talking about his attempts to spread the wealth around through his huge tax hikes on the people that create jobs, a move that will hurt the middle class.

Yes, Obama is choosing to follow a path that doesn't foster innovation and invention and growth.

He's offering stagnation.

Mars isn't one of Obama's priorities, though he might name a Mars czar to give the appearance that he cares.

To anonymous - Canada's economy, on the whole, is hardly socialist.
