Herb Kohl has a column in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today.
The Journal Sentinel Editorial Board asked members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation to write brief essays explaining what needs to be done about the coming fiscal problems posed by entitlement spending - and what they are prepared to do to lead in this effort.
Kohl writes:
As chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, I see firsthand the critical roles played by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in the lives of older Americans.
Kohl goes on to push for greater government control over the lives of individuals. He rambles about the work he's doing to lower the cost of drugs.
He believes that his efforts will mean an improvement in health care for every American.
That of course is crap.
It's so strange for Kohl to allegedly write something for the newspaper. He does so little, but how could he turn down the JS without looking completely disinterested? He had to submit something. Still, it was so unusual. Kohl usually stays in the shadows.
He did participate in the Circus Parade yesterday, riding in a horse-drawn carriage with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and his wife. At the last minute, Kohl decided to take part in the parade though he had declined an earlier invitation.
It was weird that Barrett and his wife were wearing period costumes and Kohl was sitting there in his Bucks cap.
When he got out and walked some of the route, he looked like a parade viewer who had wandered off the curb and became separated from family members.
He was frighteningly pale. I hope he wore lots of sunscreen. He really looked hunched over, frail and old.
