When Katie Couric was a guest on Late Show with David Letterman, July 28, 2009, she told a rather strange story.
She rattled through it very quickly, time running short, though she did find time to mock the pronunciation of Rabbi Shmuley Boteach's last name -- twice.
Couric said that in 2000, Michael Jackson asked her to go out on date.
I found a report from Rolling Stone, posted January 17, 2001, that corroborates Couric's story.
Michael Hits on Katie
Michael Jackson wants to be starting something with Katie Couric. When the 42-year-old, twice-divorced pop star was recently in New York to help promote his charity, Time With Kids, he met the perky Today show co-host at the Four Seasons hotel to talk about the project. A few days later, one of Jackson's associates called Couric, 44, and asked whether she was seeing anyone, adding that Jackson would like to take her out on a date, sources tell Hot Stuff. Couric, who has been dating TV producer Tom Werner since last summer, politely declined the offer. Meanwhile, Jackson continues his quest to be taken seriously - he and Time With Kids president Rabbi Shmuley Boteach have been invited to several presidential inaugural events to talk about children's issues and Jackson's dream of establishing a new national holiday called Children's Day.
Couric was very interested in telling the Michael Jackson story. I don't know why. Letterman gave her another segment to do it.
By the way, since Couric went back to short hair, have you noticed how much she resembles Suze Orman, albeit with puffier cheeks?
