The Arizona legislature is taking steps to ensure that citizens can opt out of ObamaCare, protecting them from a disastrous government-run health care system.
(CNSNews.com) -- Voters in Arizona will decide next year whether residents will be subject to mandates in the pending health care reform that President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are promoting.
At least five other states – Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota and Wyoming – have considered proposals to take pre-emptive action against the pending federal mandates, but those proposals have either not made it out of committee, failed to get enough votes from one side of the legislature, or are still being crafted.
Only the Arizona Legislature introduced an initiative (HCR2014), which if passed, would amend the state constitution to codify that no resident would be required to participate in any public health care option. Arizonans will vote on the initiative in November 2010.
“HCR2014 is proactive and will protect patients’ fundamental rights,” Arizona State Rep. Nancy Barto, a Republican, said in a statement. “We are a front-line battle state to stop the momentum of this powerful government takeover of your health care decisions. Health care by lobbyists thwarts your rights and can be stopped here.”
The main issue is the core of the Obama health plan – a government run or “public option” – to compete with private health insurers. Some state lawmakers fear such legislation would force residents to buy into the public plan.
Nancy Barto talks about HCR2014.
NANCY BARTO (Arizona State Representative): I've been asked that a lot. 'Why be so proactive when we don't know what's coming?' Well, we see the signs. And they all lead towards one conclusion, that government is heading in a direction of a huge takeover of your health care decisions. We are being proactive to protect our citizens' rights. What we're seeing is really a monumental takeover....
Whenever government gets into the business of health care, becomes a competitor, they change the rules to win. Government can't be a competitor and a regulator at the same time. It doesn't make sense. Sooner or later, and probably sooner, citizens won't have a choice.
I wish I lived in Arizona.

I also wished I lived in Arizona, or the other 5 states that are trying to pass similar measures!
I had a better idea than socialized medicine, I did write my numerous letters to my representatives and the white house, but I think it benefits the people, so it is a no-go.

It's not full-proof but it's a hell of a lot better than the crap Congress is putting through. Actually I think ACTUAL CRAP is better than what Congress is putting through
I live in Chandler myself, and the only reason I haven't jumped on this just yet is that we have a major growing Democratic presence (Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland refugees continue to vote D 'cause we don't really have unions out here, we have a masssssive illegal presence that ACORN probably is very familiar with, and the res and rural populations have really come down blue in the past decade).
I could see the same electorate that put Napolitano in charge coming back to kill this thing in a few years. We're notorious for crap like that. There are a lot of Libertarians like myself out here as well, but a lot of them don't vote out of frustration, which has been killing Maricopa Republicans as of late. We have a lot of middle-class uninterested voters, and a lot of seniors that were taken in by Comrade's NHS promises. I have hopes for the state, but there are some demoralizing trends.
Hopefully, ObamaCare will die before any Americans are harmed.
Obama's health care plan has advantages and disadvantages as well. He says the new system is for people, so let's ask them what they prefer - http://www.votetheday.com/healthcare/obamas-health-care-plan-415/
Health*care* and corporate medical operations in Arizona currently provide the absolute worst services that I have ever experienced. If you are considering a relocation to Arizona, please take the nightmarish conditions into account. It make complete sense that Arizonans would support something as inane as this; for all of the incredibly negative people in Arizona who would support these ridiculous legislative efforts, I ask you to first give the Obama administration an opportunity to actually lay out some healthcare alternatives before launching your uninformed and hateful attacks, please. Stop and think this through before making such a ludicrous attack.
Uninformed and hateful?
Give me a break.
Obama wants government-run health care -- ObamaCare.
A government-run system means rationed care, long waits, lack of innovation, and bureaucrats deciding who lives and dies.
For the sake of my family's health, I will not support Obama's disastrous proposal.
I'm not speaking out of hate. I'm speaking out of love.
