Sotomayor: Latina Comment

Today, Sonia Sotomayor "clarified" the racially charged comment she made that has caused such an uproar.

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."

From the Associated Press:
Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor says she doesn't believe that "any racial or ethnic group has an advantage in sound judgment."

She was asked Tuesday at her Senate confirmation hearing to clarify her controversial remark that a "wise Latina" might be able to make better decisions than a white man.

Sotomayor told Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy that she used those words in an effort to inspire groups of young Hispanics to believe that "they could become anything they wanted to become."

The high court nominee said she believes different life experiences enrich the legal system.

What a crock!

She said what she said. It wasn't an isolated quote taken out of context. Her statement reveals her mindset. She has repeated it a number of times. It is a deeply held belief.

Sotomayor is engaged in spin.

Her "clarification" is a lie.

If it's not, then she's had quite an epiphany recently. She's a changed woman. She no longer believes that a "a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male."

I don't buy it.

It appears that Sotomayor has undergone an extreme, albeit extremely temporary, makeover for the confirmation hearing.

After watching her for a while I can only surmise that this woman is totally incompetent and is a poster woman for the Peter Principle. She comes off as being spiteful and not even aware of what she was doing on the Firefighter case. She is all about righting what she perceives as wrongs. She is not suited for the Supreme Court. If she is confirmed she will be the intellectual joke of the Supremes. Thomas and Scalia will run circles around this woman. It won't be pretty.

Honey, you got to limit the number of posts that load per page, and trim down your sidebar of shame. It took me quite some time to figure out from the quotes what affiliation you had. The Al Gore quote seems intelligent, the Olberman quote, and the Colin Powell quote; all are things I would put up on my blog, were I running a political blog. You need to trim down to bare essentials. What are the Stupidest things ever said by a Democrat?

(And hold the snarky comments about there being so many, because Bush made so many mistakes in error there are calenders full of them.)

Also, widen your margins, make your posts more easily read. Barring that, move some of the sidebar to the other side (but that always seems so cluttered).

Best of luck!

I'm afraid Sotomayor will really be out of her league.

Compare the confirmation hearings of Roberts and Alito with this.

Sotomayor is embarrassing herself.
