Obama: 'Teabag, Anti-government People'

Kathryn Jean Lopez points out something Obama said on Saturday when he addressed Democrats, as reported in the New York Times.

She expresses her surprise, "The President of the United States Said That?"

Mr. Obama, during his private pep talk to Democrats, recognized Mr. [Bill] Owens election and then posed a question to the other lawmakers. According to Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, who supports the health care bill, the president asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”

I think Obama must be hanging out with Keith Olbermann and Anderson Cooper and Janeane Garofalo too much.

Apparently, Obama sees the "bitter clingers" as teabaggers as well.

Obama needs to clean up his act.

It's possible that Obama didn't use the term and Blumenauer screwed up Obama's quote.

In any case, Obama is highlighting divisions. Rather than trying to unite Americans, he's labeling people, and putting them in separate camps. He's showing no attempt to find common ground or be inclusive.

"The extremists"?

I wish Obama was more concerned about Islamic extremists than his political opponents at home.

Obama is still in campaign mode. He has a bunker mentality, drawing up an enemies list and punishing individuals.

He has yet to really assume his role as president of the United States. Obama knows how to campaign but I don't think he knows how to be president.
