In the relatively minor voice role of Luanne, Brittany Murphy brought by far the most pathos to the show "King of the Hill." In this pretty terrifically written cartoon series, Murphy gave just the right touch to Luanne -- proud yet bewildered, hopeful yet hard-luck. There was a break in Luanne's voice at times, a quiver, Murphy used to great effect at moments when the character was falling victim to baffling events just at the time she was attempting to control them and organize her life. Brittany Murphy made you feel Luanne's pain, and she was a terrific voice actress. When I heard she had died, I immediately thought of the great episode with Buckley's angel. I don't know if Brittany Murphy loved "King of the Hill" or it was just a good-paying gig. I don't know much about her at all. But I like this show and I liked this character so I come here to this site that appears to care to pay my respects. -- John in d.c.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, John, and offering your insight.

I loved the character of Luanne for all the reasons you point out.

To me, the "Buckley's Angel" episode was so touching and spiritual, tackling issues of faith and doubt, and the nature of our very existence. It was one of the series' best episodes.

Luanne didn't seem like a two-dimensional drawing to me. I think that had a lot to with Brittany Murphy's talent as an actress.
