Shaun White: Halfpipe Gold

Shaun White knew that he had won gold before his second run on the halfpipe. Since he had secured the gold, he was about to do what would amount to a victory lap. The competition was over.

Prior to his second run, White and the coaches were celebrating. The TV audience was treated to the audio.

White said, "I can't ride right now, man."

He and his coaches were deciding what he should do.

"What do you want to do?"

"Do whatever you want."

A coach suggested that he do the Double McTwist 1260, aka Double McTwist 12, aka the Whitesnake.

But, if White did it, he should "stomp the s--- out of it."

NBC announcers apologized for the language, but chalked it up to all the emotions of the moment.

(Note: In NBC's rebroadcast, the problem words were omitted; not with bleeps, just silenced.)

White did what his coach told him to do. He did the Double McTwist 12 and he stomped it.

Incredible.

Scotty Lago took the bronze medal.

VANCOUVER (AP) -- Shaun White has defended his Olympic title in men's halfpipe, defeating Finland's Peetu Piiroinen to give the United States its third gold medal of the day.

White secured the win on his first run Wednesday night without trying his signature trick, the Double McTwist 1260, then did it on his victory lap for a winning score of 48.4.

American Scotty Lago took bronze to give the United States multiple podiums in three straight Olympics.

Congrats, Shaun and Scotty!

The thrill of victory!
