Nancy Pelosi: Damn the Constitution

I wasn't happy that Obama became the 44th president of the United States. I wasn't happy that Obama had a Democrat House and Senate.

But I hoped Obama would govern responsibly and those serving in Congress would listen to their constituents. I expected them to uphold the Constitution.

What I hoped for hasn't happened. Not even close.

They're discarding the law of the land.

Nancy Pelosi has no problem with that. In fact, she finds that approach to be a very appealing way to legislate.

After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate's health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers "deem" the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

"It's more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know," the speaker said in a roundtable discussion with bloggers Monday. "But I like it," she said, "because people don't have to vote on the Senate bill."

Pelosi's is willing to ignore the Constitution, claiming to pass a bill without a vote.

She says, "But I like it because people don't have to vote on the Senate bill."

What the hell is that?

Explain it to me.

What is that?

That quote from Pelosi is priceless. Pelosi wants to deem a massive bill passed without voting on it.

WHAT? This comes from the freaking Speaker of the House!

The cowardly and conniving Pelosi wants to give the wobbly and weak-kneed Dems cover.

"But I like it because people don't have to vote on the Senate bill."

In other words, damn the Constitution!

This is about OUR Constitution. Obama and Pelosi and the Democrats are acting like thugs.

What about the rule of law?

This is scary.
