Ahmadinejad at UN: Delegates Walk Out

From Bloomberg:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today said the possession of nuclear weapons is “shameful.”

“The possession of nuclear bombs is not a source of pride,” Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a monthlong conference at the United Nations on the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty. “Its possession is disgusting and shameful.”

“What really is the cause of failure to disarm?” he said. “To answer this question one should look into the policies and practices of certain states as well as the Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

Ahmadinejad said nuclear deterrence fuels a global arms race, and he accused both the U.S. and Israel of threatening other nations.

“The United States has threatened to use nuclear weapons against other countries, including my country,” he said. “The Zionist regime, too, continuously threatens other Middle Eastern countries.”

U.S. diplomats left the United Nations hall as Ahmadinejad criticized the U.S.

I wonder how Obama will react to the U.S. delegates walking out during Ahmadinejad's speech.

Obama usually reacts to criticism from foreign leaders with an apology.

More on Ahmadinejad's speech, from FOX News:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the United States Monday of committing "acts of terror" and blamed the host nation at a U.N. nonproliferation conference for a worldwide spread of nuclear weapons, prompting representatives from the U.S., Britain and France to walk out.

Using the United Nations' stage as a platform to lecture nuclear-armed nations, Ahmadinejad defended his country's nuclear ambitions and argued that countries which possess nuclear weapons for reasons of stability are making a "gross mistake."

"The sole purpose of nuclear weapons is to annihilate all human beings," Ahmadinejad said. "Its possession is disgusting and shameful."

He outlined a host of demands, calling for nuclear weapons at U.S. military bases to be dismantled, calling for the U.N. Security Council to be overhauled and strongly suggesting that the United States be kicked off the board for the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Obama does agree with Ahmadinejad on some points. Obama wants all nuclear weapons to be dismantled.

That was one of the reasons he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Before walking out, perhaps the U.S. delegates should have bowed to Ahmadinejad.
