Everybody Draw Mohammed Day

Today is "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day."

Brad Thor, Big Hollywood, writes: Why Everyone in the Civilized World Must Support ‘Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.'

Here's the "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" Facebook page.

TO CLARIFY: This is not a COMPETITION. We all win or we all lose. Sites and newspapers around the world are quoting us as having a competition, well, we're not. This is a joint effort.

We also encourage you to make a creative and funny depiction of mohammed. There is no need to make hateful and totally respectless depiction of him. Remember that we also, sad, but true: hurt the feelings of the moderate muslims aswell.

Hopefully this page will spark serious debates in international forums.

We are not trying to slander the average muslim , it's not a muslim/islam hatepage. We simply want to show the extremists that threaten to harm people because of their Mohammed depictions, that we're not afraid of them. That they can't take away our right to freedom of speech by trying to scare us to silence.

This effort grew out of the uproar from some Muslims over the South Park episode that mocked Mohammed. The episode resulted in threats to its creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The threats worked. Comedy Central caved. The episode was censored.

Brad Thor sums up the reaction:

We will no longer retreat. We will no longer fall back. We will no longer demand from every other community on the face of the planet that they meet us on the playing field of civilized, rational discourse, yet carve out a special, protected, no-holds-barred zone for Islam.

It’s over. This far and no farther. No more special treatment. It is time for Islam to come into the 21st century.

This is why I support “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.”
