Larry Miller, MPS, and Arizona Boycott

Here we go...

Larry Miller, a Milwaukee school board member, borrowed some high school students on Wednesday to stage a protest march/media event.

I think the students should have been in the classroom, not on the street aiding Miller in his personal quest to get the media's attention.

From TMJ4 and MSNBC:

There's already a move for the city of Milwaukee to boycott business with Arizona, but now school board member Larry Miller says he wants schools to do so too.

Miller says it's an extreme measure, but these are extreme circumstances. The boycott would cover things like purchase of school supplies and work-related travel to Arizona.

..."To me, even if it's symbolic it's very important that we as a community support the rights of the people throughout this country," says Miller.

MPS would be just the latest of many communities to boycott Arizona. Denver's school district has already approved a boycott and so have the cities of St. Paul, Oakland and West Hollywood.

According to TMJ4 reporter Michael George, about 300 students marched to UWM on Wednesday to protest Arizona's law to get a handle on ILLEGAL immigration.

(I wonder how their grades are. Was it wise for those students to miss class?)

Miller said, "I'm about to introduce another resolution to call for MPS to end any travel or business relationship with the state of Arizona."

Why doesn't he introduce a resolution to impact and improve performance in Milwaukee's schools? That would be worthwhile.

He talks about supporting "the rights of the people throughout this country."

People in the country illegally, law-breakers, do not have the rights of American citizens or legal immigrants.

Mexico doesn't grant Americans the same rights as its own citizens.

This is nuts.

Miller's job is to address the needs of students in Milwaukee. Why are taxpayer dollars being used to fund Miller's political escapades? Inappropriate.

There are so many problems with the Milwaukee Public Schools. As an MPS official, why is Miller wasting his time on Arizona's law? His time would be much better spent working to improve the schools in Milwaukee rather than focusing on Arizona. He should worry about the dropout rate in Milwaukee and the failing schools, not how Arizona is managing its ILLEGAL immigrant problem.

I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. All of us ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would wish his children to be treated, but this is not the case.

I know the proponents of this law say that the majority approves of this law, but the majority is not always right. Would women or non-whites have the vote if we listen to the majority of the day, would the non-whites have equal rights (and equal access to churches, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, schools, colleges and yes water fountains) if we listen to the majority of the day? We all know the answer, a resounding, NO!

Today we are committed to a worldwide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. In a time of domestic crisis men of good will and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics and do what is right, not what is just popular with the majority. Some men comprehend discrimination by never have experiencing it in their lives, but the majority will only understand after it happens to them.

"All Men are created equal"! The founders had it right, when attempting to form a perfect union and they also knew that they were not there yet but knew we one day would get there. Lincoln moved us forward as did JFK and LBJ. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.

It is my contention that this AZ law is not constitutional and will fail when challenged (unless they keep adding more amendments), pretty funny for a perfect law, now why hitch your wagon to this dead white elephant? I do not understand. See You In Court.
