Humboldt Park Stabbing and Fireworks

Humboldt Park in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood marked Independence Day with a special celebration.

From FOX 6 News:

Many turn out to the Humboldt Park party, which is Milwaukee's oldest Independence Day traditions. For 100 years those who live around Milwaukee's Bayview neighborhood have enjoyed the 4th of July celebrations in Humboldt Park.

This is 4th of July tradition at its best, people in the community coming together to celebrate our great country -- 100 years of celebrations at Humboldt Park.

It's terribly unfortunate that violence is also part of Humboldt Park's 2010 story.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Two men were stabbed late Monday following the Humboldt Park fireworks, police said this morning.

The victims, 28 and 31, received stab wounds to the chest and legs, but the injuries appear to be non-life threatening. Both were in stable condition this morning, police said.

The stabbings took place about 10 p.m. near Oklahoma Ave. and Clement Ave.

Police are seeking an unknown suspect.

Here's more, from WISN:
Police are searching for a person or or persons in a stabbing following the Bay View fireworks show.

Police said an argument between two groups of people at the Humboldt Park fireworks led to people throwing articles at each other.

Afterward, one group followed the other to a nearby gas station, where the argument continued and led to some slash wounds, police said.

Two men were stabbed in the chest and legs.

They are both at a hospital and are said to be stable with non-life-threatening injuries.

It's scary to think that thugs with weapons were among all the families and friends celebrating Independence Day at Humboldt Park.

In spite of a significant police presence, there still was violence.

On the bright side, it could have been worse. Shots could have been fired. Innocent bystanders in the crowd could have been injured or killed.

This makes me sick.

Bay View didn't used to be like this.

Any comment, Mr. Mayor? Yoo hoo, Tom Barrett! Mayor of Milwaukee! Where are you?

How are things going in your city?
