Obama Vacation - 'Will Not Rest'

Obama pledged to the American people that he and his administration "will not rest" until they see to it that (fill-in-the-blank).

Although Obama is on yet another vacation, I guess he's sticking to his promise.

His first day on vacation wasn't very restful.

From the Boston Herald:

President Obama made the most of his first day of vacation, playing 18 holes at the chi-chi Vineyard Golf Club after taking daughters Sasha and Malia book shopping in Vineyard Haven.

The prez, who has played more than 40 rounds of golf while in office, continued his links roll at the private, 18-hole course in Edgartown where he teed off with his favorite golfing companion, White House aide Marvin Nicholson, Chicago BFF Eric Whitaker and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.

Marvin, as you may know, is a former aide to U.S. Sen. John Kerry and a scratch golfer who has been helping Barry step up his game. Clyburn is a longtime pal of the prez as is Whitaker, a Chicago doc who spent much quality time with the first family during their Vineyard holiday last year.

The oh-so-snooty Vineyard Golf Club is so exclusive, the White House press vans were not allowed on the premises yesterday - they were banished to the side of the access road! The club is one of the country’s most expensive private courses with a reported $350,000 membership fee. (Rumor has it the price was lowered from $500,000 in deference to the recession.)

The club also sports the nation’s only truly “green” greens, because the island forbids the use of synthetic pesticides on the property. TV funnymen David Letterman and Larry David, conservative yakker Rush Limbaugh and “Caddyshack” groundskeeper Bill Murray all have been spotted on the fairways. But not yesterday, because the press was confined to their bus! (Makes us long for the downscale charms of the Farm Neck Golf Club.)

Before hitting the links, Obama took the kids to Bunch of Grapes, the venerable Vineyard Haven bookseller that was a favorite haunt of the last president to vacation here, Bill Clinton.

...[Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton] also expects the prez to spend some quality time on the basketball court at Blue Heron Farm and to hit the beach with Michelle and the kids.

No rest for Obama, just like he promised.
