Obama: 'We Can Absorb a Terrorist Attack'

Bob Woodward's new book, Obama's Wars, offers insight into Obama and his team.

From the Washington Post:

Woodward's book portrays Obama and the White House as barraged by warnings about the threat of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and confronted with the difficulty in preventing them. During an interview with Woodward in July, the president said, "We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger."

That is really a creepy quote.

It's so cold.

"We can absorb a terrorist attack."

Yes, I suppose we can "absorb" another massive attack, but I don't like Obama's language at all.

The human element, the terror and the suffering, seems lost on him when he speaks of the country's ability to "absorb" an attack.

I know Obama says "We'll do everything we can to prevent it." I trust that to be the case, though I do think displays of weakness and shrinking our military don't translate into doing "everything we can to prevent it." I don't believe for one minute that Obama would be cool with another attack simply because we can absorb it. Of course not. I refuse to demonize Obama like that.

Nonetheless, it's troubling to hear Obama speak in such a detached manner about something so horrific.

"Hey, we can absorb it. Time to head to the golf course. Is it date night?"

It just sounds as if he's lost perspective and has become emotionally removed from his role as protector of the lives of millions of individuals.

"Absorb" this:

"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger."

--BARACK OBAMA

Very creepy. Actually, it's haunting.

By the end of 1945, We, as a nation, had "absorbed" over 400,000 casualties. We did it because it was the right thing to do, and We were, and still are proud of what We accomplished in defeating Nazi Germany.

Our enemies can attack us, and provoke us, but no matter how hard they hit us, We can take it because We are stronger and We will stand together.

Unless, of course we are talking about the Republican leadership supporting the Democratic President during war time, in which case, they will do whatever they can to undermine him, to demonize him and thereby divide the country, regardless of the danger that creates. But other than that...

It's pathetic that you're talking about Republicans undermining Obama during wartime.

Do you recall what the Dems did and said to undermine Bush during his tenure in office, showing no regard whatsoever for our troops in harm's way?

Disgraceful.
