When Brett Favre left the game after taking a hit to his chin, it looked like he was seriously injured, curled up in a fetal position as he was carted off the field.
From the Star Tribune:
After a week of conjecture about whether Brett Favre would extend his NFL-record starting streak, the quarterback not only played in the Vikings' 28-18 loss Sunday to New England, but he played pretty well.
He also came out of the game with a new injury.
Favre, 41, started his 292nd consecutive regular-season game and was hit in the chin by the helmet of Patriots nose tackle Myron Pryor in the fourth quarter and had to be replaced by Tarvaris Jackson. Favre, who was taken from the field while lying on a cart with athletic trainer Eric Sugarman holding a towel to Favre's bloody face, said his chin was numb after he received eight stitches but that he did not lose consciousness.
He almost didn't start Sunday because of a stress fracture in his left ankle and a fracture in the left heel. "As I went into the tunnel on the cart, I thought to myself for a brief second, 'What in the world am I doing?' " Favre said. "But there's nothing like competing."
Based on Favre's press conference after the game, I doubt that there's going to be as much drama as last week regarding whether he'll start.
I think it was a little odd the way Favre acted after the injury. How often do you see an NFL player assume a fetal position while leaving the field?
The injury looked much worse than just a laceration requiring 10 stitches.
...As for this latest injury, Favre said he probably would get tested for a concussion but made it clear he wasn't worried that he had one. Childress, meanwhile, did not waver when asked about Favre's status for next Sunday.
"Let's have a little history lesson, look a little bit back," Childress said. "You could probably venture a pretty good guess on whether you'd thought he would go. I think he'll probably take a swing at it next week. What do you think?"
What matters is what Favre thinks. "I think I am fine," he said. "Nobody knows their body like me. There are plenty of times I should have been knocked out but I wasn't, so I think I will be all right and ready to play next week."
Of course, Favre will play next week.
Here's a brief video clip from Favre's post-game remarks to the media:

He seems fine. That dramatic departure from the game was pretty weird.
Enough about him.
What a great victory for the Packers against the Jets!
