TSA Message to Travelers
November 19, 2010

JOHN PISTOLE: Hello, I’m TSA Administrator John Pistole. As you travel this holiday season I want to remind you that TSA’s mission is to ensure the safety of the traveling public and we are committed to doing so efficiently, courteously and professionally.

I’d like to offer a few tips and some important information we’d like you to know BEFORE you go through security.

Remember our 3 simple steps to security: Have your ID out, coats & shoes off and Laptop and liquids and gels less than 3 oz out and ready to go.

As you enter the checkpoint you will be directed to pass through either a walk through metal detector or an Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) unit.

If you are directed to pass through an AIT, you may OPT OUT. If you choose to opt out, you will receive a thorough pat-down by someone of the same gender.

If you alarm either the metal detector or the AIT, you would also receive a pat-down.

In either case where a pat-down is required, you have important options that we want you to be aware of: you have the option to request that the pat-down be conducted in a private room and you have the option to have the pat-down witnessed by a person of your choice.

We very much appreciate your involvement, cooperation and assistance in ensuring the safety of the traveling public. If you have questions about these procedures, the technology used by TSA, or our efforts to ensure your safety, please do not hesitate to ask one of our supervisors or visit TSA.gov.

Thank you and remember that at TSA, your safety is our priority.

I don't think this little message is enough to counter the growing list of horror stories and video of TSA abuses.

Oh, brother!

This from the people who take away the pilots' nail clippers while letting anybody and his cousin have access to the underbelly of the plane.

I just read a letter to the editor from a pilot who pointed out how freaking stupid this is. What do they think he's gonna do with that contraband? Hijack the plane he's already in control of? If you can trust him to fly the darned thing, you can trust him to bring any freaking thing he wants into the cockpit with him. (Within reason! No bongs, booze, or booty.)

You're right.

If you trust the pilot to fly the plane, literally putting your life in his hands, you should trust him to have a snow globe in the cockpit or to wear Gel shoe inserts.

All of this is just the start, I'm afraid. Hope I'm wrong but the Fed's reaction to all of this is essentially nothing.

I wonder what Barb Bush thinks about all of this.

I think the Obama administration is not backing down on this because it wants to be able to say it did everything it could in the event, God forbid, a plane is blown up.

The thing is the administration isn't doing everything they should do.

Unlike the Israelis, the TSA is looking for explosives rather than looking for terrorists.
