Jane Fonda and Jay Leno

I haven't seen Jane Fonda in a while. On Thursay, she surfaced as a guest on The Tonight Show.

When did Fonda become Mary Tyler Moore's doppelganger?

The 72-year-old Fonda didn't talk politics. She was promoting her new workout DVDs for "boomers and seniors." I suppose she's smart enough to know not to spew her Leftist drivel when trying to make a profit.

I think I would have preferred politics over Fonda and Leno's conversation.

Fonda talked about her new boyfriend, Richard Perry.

She said, "I had come to LA to get a new knee and ended up with a new lover."

It got creepier.

Leno asked her what dating is like now, since he's been married for 30 years.

JAY LENO: How long before something actually happens? It's not like when you were a kid. You meet Richard. It's been 30 years. We danced that one night. You meet him that first night. Anything happen that night?

JANE FONDA: Not in the biblical sense.

LENO: No, in the sexual sense.

FONDA: A lot happened. A lot happened, but, you know, it took a few weeks.

LENO: Oh, is it a few weeks?

FONDA: I think. I think.

LENO: So you actually waited a few weeks. Really? All right.

FONDA: Maybe one.

LENO: Just one, yeah.

FONDA: Maybe five days.

LENO: Maybe a couple of days.

FONDA: I was on crutches.

LENO: That's all right. You don't have to stand up. You know how guys are. Fine.

It's nice Fonda has found love at 72, but why talk about how long it took for them to first have sex?

Is this the Tonight Show or an ExtenZe infomercial?

Just proves maturity and age are not aligned. Also raises the question: why does anyone care? Why not just tune out and not waste the time viewing such drivel? If one needs TV at that hour, there's always a real news show: Nightline, or the 2nd half of Charlie Rose, which would be my preference if I were still awake.
