Merle Haggard, Jerry Herman, Bill T. Jones, Paul McCartney & Oprah Winfrey to Receive 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors
From the Associated Press:
Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey are hearing accolades from Washington, along with three others receiving the Kennedy Center Honors.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton hosted a dinner Saturday for the honorees, which include dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones, country singer Merle Haggard and Broadway composer Jerry Herman.
Top entertainers visiting for the event include Julia Roberts, Claire Danes, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, and Gwen Stefani. A surprise list of stars will perform for the honorees Sunday night.
Clinton marveled at the diverse group at the State Department. After a week of dealing with the WikiLeaks release of confidential dispatches, Clinton joked she is writing a cable about the arts, "which I'm sure you'll find soon on your closest website."
Again, only one woman is among the group being recognized by the Kennedy Center Honors.
In the past five years, just six women have received the honor while the contributions of twenty men have been celebrated.
Has anyone else noticed?
Video.
Note: Obama can't say "superfluous."
Just because it's written on the teleprompter doesn't mean he's capable of using the word.
