Bert and Ernie - Gay?

UPDATE, September 18, 2018: FLIRT & ERNIE? Bert and Ernie are gay says writer – but Sesame Street insist they’re just ‘non-sexual puppets’

An online petition is trying to gather support to push Bert and Ernie, beloved Sesame Street characters, into a gay marriage.

Here's the petition:

In this horrific age of LGBT kids taking their own lives, they need to know that they ARE BEAUTIFUL and their lives are worth living. Aside from those that are committing suicide, the bullies that facilitate these tragedies need to learn that homophobia is NOT okay. They need to know that acceptance of their fellow human beings would indeed plant a seed of peace that will reverberate throughout the world. We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful. Only that they allow Bert & Ernie to marry or even add a transgender character to the show. It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different. Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives.

Question of the day: How many classic story characters have been created where the character yearns nothing more than to be married and how many of them have been depicted as LGBTQ characters ? IF Cinderella was lesbian ...

This is just stupid.

A representative for Sesame Street makes it clear that there will be no gay wedding for Bert and Ernie.
Bert and Ernie, Sesame Street's favorite longtime roommates, are not getting married -- because they're not gay, or straight, for that matter. Earlier this month, inspired by New York state's recent legalization of gay marriage, an online petition argued the case that the popular Muppet characters wed one another. But Sesame Workshop nixed that idea in a statement posted on the official Sesame Street Facebook page on Thursday: "Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
Joan Rivers tweets:
There is NO WAY that Bert and Ernie are gay. They haven't changed their outfits in 25 years.

As Salaam Alaikum. It seems by the time of adulthood there is nothing anyone can do about it anymore, but a lot closer to adulthood than anyone wants to know is an ability to talk children into this more than you would ever imagine. When I was 12 and in the hood, a so-called white Jewish old social worker type started suggesting that I was a lesbian because I really was no-sexual. Actually, though she was married, she was a lesbian. She also was having me over to sleep in other rooms of where she lived, I was writing books at the time where male teenagers were having sex with female teachers she thought were the most beautiful fantasy in the world just because the wording instead of early 1990's crude was more like 1960's crude (she was that age in the early 1940's) and she was trying to talk me into thinking sexual experiences with girls happened that I know never did now. Though I wasn't physically
molested by this harpy, I'm sure once I believed her enough or turned a certain age it would have started immediately. At the time we met I was in a child shelter surrounded by older, bigger lesbian teenage girls and I never fell asleep there for a few reasons-be it the lights being on all night or making a real effort not to because I was afraid something of value would be stolen. Fortunately, I got the hell away from both in the nick of time. Now I have a hard time even trusting women as regular companions and want to see a lot less of anyone but my self's body than most straight women I know. I got away soon enough not to become scared I was gay but hyper hetrosexual. Just something to think about-it isn't politically correct, but it's just the facts. No matter what you might want to claim, it really isn't as natural or happy to be a homosexual or born that way as you might want to believe. It also might be happening a lot more these days than ever because there might be a lot more moslestation by men AND women than you want to know thanks the the internet and other things. Wa Alaikum As Salaam Rahmatullah wa Barakatu
