Milwaukee: Pregnant Woman Robbed, Killed

UPDATE: Sharon Staples, the murdered mother of 7 children, was pregnant with twins. This was a triple murder, not a double murder.

Seven children lost their mother, killed because she didn't give her purse to the conscienceless thugs.

Those children also lost two siblings.

A gunshot changed their lives forever.

It's heartbreaking.

There was a double murder in Milwaukee early Sunday morning.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A 34-year-old pregnant Milwaukee woman died from a gunshot wound after she refused to surrender her purse to robbers Sunday morning. Police said Monday they are looking for help to find the suspects.

"This young woman was an innocent victim. She wasn't up to anything illegal," Milwaukee police inspector Kurt Liebold said.

Police said Sharon L. Staples, 34, was walking with her 13-year-old son in front of 3711 W. Lisbon Ave. around 5:35 a.m. Sunday looking for her car when two men approached her. One pulled out a gun and demanded her purse. When she refused, the man shot her and took her purse.

The two men ran nearby to a teal Dodge Caravan SE van driven by a third person, police said.

The son ran away and asked someone for help. Someone called 911, and Staples was taken to the hospital. She and her 4-month-old fetus died there Sunday, Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said.

She said police were working on several leads and had recovered the 1997 van, which was stolen. But police need help finding the suspects.

"We know these two suspects did several other robberies," Liebold said.

One or two other robberies earlier Sunday in the same area also involved a teal van, he said.

One of the two robbers was described as black, in his late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 6 inches and about 150 pounds. Police did not offer a detailed description of the second suspect.

...According to Wisconsin law, the person who shot Staples likely would face a charge for a single homicide, not double, Liebold said.

Although Wisconsin law doesn't recognize the baby of murdered Sharon Staples as a life, I do.

These robbers have no respect whatsoever for life. They are totally morally bankrupt. No decent person guns down a woman in front of her young son to get her purse. It's horrible beyond words.

It sickens me and it frightens me to think that thugs like this are roaming Milwaukee.

My prayers are with her 13-year-old son and other loved ones.
