UPDATE, October 6, 2011: ESPN, Hank Williams Jr. part ways
Big mistake by ESPN.
_______________
Hank Williams Jr. was interviewed on FOX & Friends on Monday.
Talking politics, he referred to Obama as Hitler, using a simile to describe John Boehner and Obama's golf outing.
Video, from Breitbart:
HANK WILLIAMS JR.: It'd be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu, OK?
Wow.
It's never a good idea to compare anyone to Hitler, unless one really means the individual is akin to the monster.
Williams didn't really say Obama is Hitler. He used the image of Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu to describe how he felt about Boehner and Obama coming together on the links.
Still, not good.
But, Williams has the right to say whatever he wants. He can believe whatever he wants. Obviously, he wasn't worried about any fallout from the comment.
ESPN has decided not to use Williams in tonight's Monday Night Football opening.
ESPN has dropped Hank Williams Jr. from opening Monday Night Football tonight after Williams controversial comments today about President Obama.
Says ESPN, in a statement: "While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."
I understand ESPN's move.
However, I do think there's much more tolerance for Leftists that make vile attacks on Republicans.
How many entertainers called President Bush "Hitler" without any negative consequences?
Conservatives are supposed to separate entertainers and their liberal politics. We're supposed to cheer their exercise of free speech, even if it offends us. We're supposed to ignore their comments and still consume their products, whether it's movies or TV or music.
I think there's a double standard at play.
