Michelle Obama Booed - NASCAR Fans

At NASCAR's Ford 400 on Sunday, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden had the honor of saying, "Gentlemen, start your engines."

Not everyone in the crowd greeted Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden warmly.

From FOX News:

First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden received a mixed welcome to NASCAR's season-ending Ford 400 Sunday, where they served as grand marshals to help raise awareness for their "Joining Forces" initiative, which supports military families.

Scattered boos could be heard from the crowd as Obama and Biden were introduced and invited to give the traditional command, "Gentlemen, start your engines."

Earlier, Obama and Biden had addressed the drivers' meeting at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Sun Sentinel reported.

"I know this is a big day for all of you so we're not going to take up your time because you need to be focused," Obama said, according to the newspaper. "We just wanted to stop by and say thank you. NASCAR has just been amazing in terms of its support -- not just today, but every day -- of military families."

...When asked how she felt about the sights, smells and sounds of NASCAR, Obama replied, "It's awesome!"

Michelle seems to be pandering a bit. I wasn't aware that she was such an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. In all likelihood, she was just being gracious, and campaigning.

As far as the booing goes, it's free speech. It's what makes this country great. That said, I think it was boorish. Booing the first lady in this venue? Come on. It would have been better for those troubled by Michelle's presence to do a silent protest, like not applaud for her.

There doesn't have to be agreement on political matters for people to treat each other with respect.

Leftists boo Republicans all the time. They're terrible.

I think it should be noted that the majority did not boo.
