Occupy Portland: David Burgess

Occupy Portland protesters, like David Anthony Burgess, showed their utter disdain for the police.

From The Oregonian:

A day after a Portland police bike sergeant got shoved into a moving bus at an Occupy Portland demonstration, city leaders and a police union lashed back, calling on protesters to scale down confrontations with the cops.

Wednesday's march brought simmering tensions to a head. A much larger crowd than anticipated took part, ranging from a few hundred up to roughly 1,000 at times as people wandered from downtown to Southeast Portland and back, keeping police guessing where they might go next.

The free-form affair was the last straw for Mayor Sam Adams, who called on Occupy Portland participants to announce their routes ahead of time.

"It puts marchers in harm's way, unsuspecting onlookers in harm's way ... and it's very expensive when were supposed to guess where they're going to march," he said.

Police Chief Mike Reese also ordered all sworn officers to have their gas masks, batons and helmets immediately available, and be ready to use them.

Reese thanked officers for their "patience and professionalism" in dealing with demonstrators so far and reminded them that they're on a national stage.

"In the meantime, we will continue to reach out to protesters to ask for their cooperation for permitted marches," he said in a memo to his staff.

Burgess could have seriously injured the police sergeant.

Why cater to these thugs?

It's not OK for people to just take over the streets and public spaces without abiding by the law.

They're anarchists. They behave like spoiled brats, violent spoiled brats.

We are no longer a nation that follows the rule of law. Mob rule is the order of the day. This is what democracy looks like.
