Obama: Texas, Kansas, Teddy Roosevelt (Video)

"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

If Obama was joking, it was a truly stupid joke.

In Osawatomie, Kansas, delivering an economic speech, Obama began with this:

OBAMA: Well, it is great to be back in the state of Texas.

[Audience groans]

OBAMA: --state of Kansas.

Here's video:

Did Obama zone out and add to his gaffe highlight reel, or was this an attempt at humor?

Either way would be bad, but it's obvious this is another Obama blunder. No doubt about it.

Also bad -- Obama drawing parallels between himself and Teddy Roosevelt while waging class warfare.

Forget the notion of the rugged individualist. Obama wants Americans to be dependents. He wants more government control. More government control means less freedom for the individual.

Video of the entire speech:

Here's the complete White House transcript of Obama's speech.

Excerpt

OBAMA: But, Osawatomie, this is not just another political debate. This is the defining issue of our time. This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class. Because what’s at stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home, secure their retirement.

Now, in the midst of this debate, there are some who seem to be suffering from a kind of collective amnesia. After all that’s happened, after the worst economic crisis, the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, they want to return to the same practices that got us into this mess. In fact, they want to go back to the same policies that stacked the deck against middle-class Americans for way too many years. And their philosophy is simple: We are better off when everybody is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules.

I am here to say they are wrong. (Applause.) I’m here in Kansas to reaffirm my deep conviction that we’re greater together than we are on our own. I believe that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, when everyone does their fair share, when everyone plays by the same rules. (Applause.) These aren’t Democratic values or Republican values. These aren’t 1 percent values or 99 percent values. They’re American values. And we have to reclaim them. (Applause.)

Obama wants everyone to have a "fair shot."

What does that mean?

Obama wants you to believe that "fairness" requires the government's confiscation of what you earn for redistribution.

It's not fair for some people to be rich. Capitalism is unfair. He believes it's the government's job to eliminate the alleged unfairness.

In effect, Obama is calling for the middle class to reject American values, not embrace them. He wants people to forget about working hard to achieve success. Instead, Obama wants the middle class to be satisfied with what he doles out.

He's about trapping the individual in the grip of the government and creating dependency. That's insulting.

Obama's "fair shot" amounts to government being the ultimate caregiver.

No thanks.

I don't think it's fair to demonize people and make success out to be a sin. It's not fair to demonize those seizing the opportunity America offers to become successful. It's not fair for Obama to destroy opportunity.

There's so much wrong about Obama's notion of "fairness."

Rather than freeing individuals, Obama wants to enslave them via government intrusion. He's not really calling for giving everyone a "fair shot" at all.

Obama's idea of justice and fairness actually prevents individuals from self-determination.

We're not all the same. It's impossible to create a society in which we're all the same while still allowing for individual achievement and the pursuit of one's happiness.

Obama is pinning his reelection hopes on jealousy and divisiveness.

His message is not only tax the rich, but despise the rich.

That's wrong.

Bottom line: Obama is no Teddy Roosevelt.
