Check out this "Christmas" display on government property, outside the courthouse in Leesburg, Virginia.
How does one intrepret a skeleton dressed in a Santa Claus suit nailed to a cross?
Residents were not happy about these "decorations" at the courthouse.
From FOX 5, DC:
A controversial holiday display outside the courthouse in Leesburg has angered some residents there. It is a skeleton dressed as Santa and nailed to a cross.
"Disgusting, outrageous, and absurd" is how Supervisor-elect Ken Reid describes the display.
"This fellow crossed the line," Reid said. "I'm worried about kids seeing this at the parade on Saturday."
Jeff Heflin of Middleburg followed protocol to get his display approved. He submitted an application to the Board of Supervisors last December. It approved the first ten, first come, first served.
Heflin's display didn't stay intact long. A local resident was so disturbed by it, she dismantled it. Jonathan Weintraub of the NOVA Atheists took pictures of the vandalism for the Heflins.
"It was meant to show the over commercialization of Christmas," Weintraub said. "I agree. It is over commercialized. People should keep their hands off the display, all the displays."
...The other nine displays approved for this year will be erected over the next few days, including several for the Nova Atheists on December 10.
A skeleton of Santa nailed to the cross depicts the over-commercialization of Christmas.
Yeah, right.
This is part of what has sadly become a holiday tradition - the War on Christmas.
I wonder what the Nova Atheists have in store for Leesburg residents. They have several displays to erect in the next few days.
I doubt they will show tolerance and respect for Christians.
Think how frightening the Santa skeleton may have been to children.
That display in the public square bordered on abusive, not to mention blasphemous.
Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing. So is respect and basic decency.
The display certainly showed no good will whatsoever. No intention to promote Peace on Earth. It was an attack. It was meant to offend and it did.
Very sad.
Why do some people want to hurt others?
